Amazon Web Services (AWS), through Amazon Corporate Services Pty Ltd, is seeking a Data Centre Engineering Operations Technician to support one of Australia’s major technology programs serving the national security community and its allies.

In this role, you will help operate and maintain the critical infrastructure that supports AWS data centres, including stand-by diesel generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, precision cooling, HVAC systems and building automation.

You will develop hands-on expertise across electrical and mechanical systems, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and work alongside engineering, security and operations teams to maintain reliable data centre operations.

Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold, or be eligible to obtain, an Australian Government Security Clearance. Applicants must also be able to successfully complete an Organisational Suitability Assessment.

Key responsibilities

  • Review and manage routine and corrective maintenance across critical data centre infrastructure.
  • Support switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, air handling systems and building monitoring systems.
  • Establish and monitor operational performance benchmarks.
  • Analyse facility performance and prepare reports supporting continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, commissioning and build-out of new facilities.
  • Develop and implement projects focused on capacity, efficiency, sustainability and reliability.
  • Manage facility assets, infrastructure and inventory.
  • Coordinate contractors and vendors working on site.
  • Ensure works comply with established procedures, practices and applicable legislation.
  • Work with engineering and business leaders to improve plant safety, performance and efficiency.
  • Participate in 24/7 shift rotations.

Basic qualifications

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, including mechanical, HVAC and control systems.
  • Valid and active driver’s licence.
  • Ability to cover 24/7 shift rotations.

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of service management concepts and systems, including problem and change management.
  • Degree or technical certification, including qualifications gained through military or trade school.
