About the role

Amazon Web Services (AWS), through Amazon Corporate Services Pty Ltd, is seeking a Cluster Operations Leader to lead a growing Data Center Operations region during a period of significant infrastructure expansion.

This is a senior leader-of-leaders role with responsibility for operational performance across multiple data centre facilities, covering safety, security, availability, capacity, cost and employee development.

You will lead a multidisciplinary organisation spanning data centre operations, engineering operations, logistics and decommissioning. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on engagement across facilities, workforce planning, new site launches and operational improvement.

Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold, or be eligible to obtain, an Australian Government Security Clearance. Applicants must also be able to successfully complete an Organisational Suitability Assessment.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary cluster operations management team across data centre operations, engineering operations, logistics and decommissioning.
  • Drive operational performance across safety, security, availability, capacity and cost.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks before they affect customers.
  • Partner with infrastructure delivery and region services teams to support new data centre launches and expansions.
  • Ensure smooth operational handover and readiness for production workloads.
  • Own workforce planning and talent strategy across the cluster.
  • Build leadership capability through coaching, development planning and succession planning.
  • Establish and continuously improve operational processes and incident response procedures.
  • Improve automation practices to increase reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Engage directly with site leaders, engineers and technical teams across data centre facilities.
  • Coordinate operational priorities across multiple facilities and stakeholder groups.

Basic qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant management experience in data centre operations, facility engineering operations, IT critical environments, advanced high-volume manufacturing, data centre build-outs and scaling, or a similar environment.
  • 10+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Experience delivering complex projects with prior ownership of a mission-critical team and/or product.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communicating with technical and non-technical audiences and senior leadership.
  • Valid and active driver’s licence.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working to relevant health and safety standards and regulations.
  • Project management experience.
