OverviewAWS is seeking Systems Development Engineers to support secure cloud infrastructure environments within the AWS Region Services team.This role is responsible for supporting systems engineering, automation, operational tooling and infrastructure reliability across highly secure AWS environments supporting sensitive workloads.The role requires strong technical problem-solving skills, collaboration and the ability to operate within fast-paced operational and engineering environments.About the organisationThe AWS Region Services team combines AWS global cloud leadership with Australian security expertise to deliver highly secure and scalable cloud environments for sensitive workloads.AWS Region Services supports secure operations across key capability areas including Compute & Machine Learning, Security Identity & Compliance, and Storage & Databases, while helping customers deliver critical missions securely and reliably.Amazon actively supports veteran and military community employment pathways through dedicated mentoring, onboarding and support programs, recognising the leadership, adaptability and operational experience veterans and first responders bring to high-performing teams.The roleAs a Systems Development Engineer within AWS Region Services, you will support the development, automation and operational reliability of secure cloud infrastructure environments.Key responsibilities include: • Supporting systems engineering and operational tooling activities • Developing and improving automation, monitoring and self-healing systems • Supporting operational management systems and process improvements • Participating in production acceptance testing and hardware evaluations • Monitoring system health, maintenance and reporting activities • Supporting infrastructure reliability and operational efficiency initiatives • Collaborating with technology and operational teams to improve service delivery • Participating in on-call rotations and incident response activities when requiredSkills and experience• Experience contributing to automation for new and existing systems• Experience programming in languages such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C# or Rust• Experience working within Linux/Unix environments• Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills• Experience supporting operational infrastructure environments• Understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, DHCP and TCP/IP highly regarded• Experience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog or Grafana desirable• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and scripting tools highly regardedRequirements• Australian Citizenship required• Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an Australian Government Security Clearance• Ability to successfully complete an Organisational Suitability Assessment• Ability to participate in on-call and out-of-hours operational support as required• Ability to work within highly secure operational environmentsJob detailsVacancies: 1How to applyEligible candidates are encouraged to apply directly through the AWS Careers portal.
