Make an impact at Serco

The knowledge and skills of a warfare officer are a rare commodity. We offer an environment where you can use a career’s worth of technical expertise to continue supporting Navy and Defence while transitioning to life after service.

As a Senior Maritime Warfare Instructor, you’ll use your knowledge and operational experience to mentor and develop future Royal Australian Navy Surface Warfare Officers, delivering advanced Navigation and Warfare training and instilling the professional standards required at sea.

Working as part of an experienced instructional team, you’ll contribute to classroom instruction, bridge simulation and the ongoing development of Navy courseware and training capability.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver advanced Navigation and Maritime Warfare instruction
  • Mentor and assess Junior Warfare Officers throughout their training
  • Deliver training across classroom and bridge simulation environments
  • Contribute to course development and continuous improvement
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge of Navy tactics, techniques and procedures
  • Work collaboratively with Navy and Serco stakeholders to maintain high training standards
  • Participate in rostered training activities where required

Serco is a place for you

You’ll bring a wealth of knowledge and recent operational experience from a Commonwealth Navy, together with a genuine interest in developing future Surface Warfare Officers.

You’ll ideally have

  • Experience as a Principal Warfare Officer or Navigating Officer aboard a Frigate or Destroyer, or Commonwealth equivalent
  • Completion of the Principal Warfare Officer Course, Surface Combatant Navigation Course or equivalent Commonwealth qualification
  • Approximately 12 months’ experience in one of these operational appointments within the last five years
  • Strong communication and mentoring skills
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an NV1 Defence Security Clearance

Instructional experience is welcomed but not essential. Serco will support you in obtaining the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
